Affordable Housing: Urbanization has resulted in an increase in the number of people living in slums and squatter settlements in deteriorated housing conditions in the area. The high land value in the urban areas have forced the economically weaker sections of the society to live in dilapidated conditions, affecting the health of the people.
The Shivamogga Smart City project proposes to improve the living conditions of the slum dwellers by constructing 1350 affordable houses under the smart city program. It also aims at providing better basic services and amenities to improve the livability of the slum dwellers through optimum land utilization by either resettlement or relocation models. This will ensure that the development of the city is inclusive and does not render the poor homeless.
